In today's world, concern for the natural environment is becoming an increasingly urgent issue. Every initiative aimed at protecting our planet is of great importance, especially when it involves young people. One of such inspiring actions was the recent initiative organized in Chałupki, where students and teachers from the local primary school, together with the eco-manager of Krzyżanowice Municipality, Angelika Krupa, participated in a major World Cleanup Day event.

On September 24, 2024, as part of the nationwide World Cleanup Day campaign, the Anti-Smog School Team from Chałupki, led by teacher Piotr Rybarz, set out on a mission to clean the local area. This team was established through the integrated LIFE project titled “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored.” The aim of this initiative was not only to tidy up public spaces but also to raise environmental awareness among youth and local residents.

The campaign had both an educational and social dimension, showing that caring for the environment is everyone's responsibility, regardless of age. Taking responsibility for the future of our planet is especially important for the younger generation, who, in a few years, will play a key role in shaping efforts to protect nature.

World Cleanup Day is a global initiative that annually attracts millions of participants worldwide. The goal is not only to remove waste from forests, parks, and streets but, most importantly, to promote environmental education and eco-friendly attitudes. Actions like the one in Chałupki remind us that everyone has an impact on the environment in which we live. Even the smallest gestures, such as recycling, saving water, or reducing plastic usage, can bring measurable benefits to our planet.

Initiatives like this one in Chałupki also help build a sense of community among residents and strengthen social bonds. Cleaning up the local area together not only improves the aesthetics of the place we live in but also encourages people to take better care of their surroundings.

The Anti-Smog School Team, which organized the action in Chałupki, is a group of students dedicated to improving air quality and raising awareness about the harmful effects of smog. The team was formed thanks to the integrated LIFE project “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored,” which aims to combat air pollution in the Silesian region.

The team’s activities include organizing informational campaigns, educational lessons about ecology, and practical initiatives such as cleaning up nearby areas. Through such projects, young people learn that change starts with them – their everyday choices and actions have a real impact on the environment they live in.

Youth play a crucial role in the fight for a cleaner planet. Many innovative ideas for improving environmental quality are born among young people. Their enthusiasm and openness to new solutions make them a driving force for societal change.

Involvement in initiatives like World Cleanup Day not only gives them the opportunity for active engagement but also teaches them responsibility for the world around them. It’s also a great opportunity to foster collaboration with the local community and strengthen relationships with peers, which in turn leads to a stronger sense of community.

During this year's action in Chałupki, we saw how fantastic the students and teachers from the Primary School were in taking on the task with dedication. Thanks to their efforts, the local area was cleaned up, and residents gained a more pleasant and cleaner place to live.

A huge round of applause goes to the students, teachers, and Angelika Krupa, who, as the eco-manager of Krzyżanowice Municipality, inspired and organized this event. It’s a perfect example of how, through joint efforts, we can truly improve the quality of the environment and everyday life.
