On January 30, a special educational workshop was held at the Primary School in Krzyżanowice for first to third-grade students, focusing on air pollution issues. The workshop, conducted as part of the integrated LIFE project Silesia. Blue Sky Restored, aimed to introduce young students to the topic of smog and its impact on health and the environment.

The title of the workshop – Why is SMOG More Dangerous than a DRAGON? – was no coincidence. With great curiosity, the children discovered that while storybook dragons may be scary, the real threat to their health is an invisible enemy – smog. During the session, students learned:

  • what smog is and what its sources are,
  • why polluted air is harmful to health,
  • how each of us can contribute to reducing it.

The workshop took the form of interactive activities, including educational games, engaging experiments, and practical lessons on how to help keep the air clean in their surroundings.

The event was also supported by the School Anti-Smog Team, a group of young eco-leaders who not only deepen their knowledge about air quality but also actively share it with others. Their involvement proves that the fight for clean air is not just an adult responsibility – even the youngest can make a difference!

The workshop was organized and supported by eco-manager Angelika Krupa, who, together with teacher and team supervisor Magdalena Gancarczyk, oversaw the event.

Workshops like this are a great example of how environmental education can be both engaging and inspiring. Through such initiatives, children learn from an early age how to take care of the environment and understand why it is worth taking action to improve air quality.

A big thank you to all participants, organizers, and young anti-smog leaders for their dedication! Together, we can make Silesia a place with clean air and a bright blue sky!
