Seniors Plant Lime Trees in Bieruń
On October 20, 2023, an ecological initiative was organized by Elżbieta Musialik, the eco-manager of the Municipality of Bieruń, during which senior citizens planted six large broadleaf lime tree seedlings (Fastigiata) at a playground in Zabrzeg, Bieruń. This event served not only to improve the greenery in the city but also to foster intergenerational integration and nature education.
During the event, participants learned about the beneficial properties of the lime tree, which is known for its beautiful and fragrant flowers and is used for herbal remedies and honey production.
They also took part in an eco-nature walk in the local area, guided by a local flora expert, Mr. Grzegorz Plewnik. The walk provided an opportunity to discover interesting facts about the plant life along the Vistula River.
Participants also gained insights into the role of Vistula River embankments in flood protection, the diversity of birds and animals inhabiting the river valley, and environmental threats. The ecological initiative garnered significant interest and appreciation from the senior citizens, who actively participated in tree planting and asked questions during the walk. The eco-manager announced the continuation of such activities in the future, aiming to improve the quality of life for Bieruń residents and protect nature.
The event was supported by Krystian Grzesica, the Mayor of the City of Bieruń, and the Bieruń Cultural Center.
