Members of the Senior Club in Pawonków have joined the project "Silesia. Blue Sky Restored".

Utilizing their sewing skills, they took up the challenge presented by the Municipal Eco-Manager Katarzyna Niesłony to sew eco-friendly, reusable shopping bags and vegetable mesh bags.

From September 2022, a group of 16 seniors took turns meeting at the Pawonków library, where sewing machines were made available to them. The library staff ensured the machines were in good working order and assisted the seniors with cutting and sewing.

The time spent sewing brought the seniors much joy, opportunities for conversations, sharing experiences, acquiring new skills, and tackling new challenges.

As Mrs. Barbara Bednarek-Mazur states, "The date on the calendar of life does not limit the willingness to take on challenges and contribute to others. On the contrary, seniors willingly share their experiences and skills, but there are not always willing listeners. The participation in another project brought a lot of satisfaction and joy to both the seniors and other participants."

As a result of the seniors' meticulous work, 87 shopping bags and 120 vegetable mesh bags were produced, intended to be distributed to the residents of the Pawonków Municipality. Reusable shopping bags will make our everyday shopping even more environmentally friendly. Environmental consciousness and care for the natural environment begin at home with small daily habits.

The culmination of the sewing campaign took place on June 26 at the Senior Club, providing an excellent opportunity for the Eco-Advisor to meet with the seniors. The seniors had the chance to learn about the LIFE project "Silesia. Blue Sky Restored" and its goals and tasks. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the seniors for their effort and commitment in raising ecological awareness.
