Science Bus on the Streets of Bytom

An eco-manager with a group of children conducting physical experiments.

Summer, vacations, relaxation, sunshine, and plenty of free time... In August, a special bus called BECEKOBUS hit the streets of Bytom. It visited various districts of Bytom to offer children and youth who didn't go on vacation a unique summer workshop experience.

Bytom Cultural Center, along with its partners, organized mobile popular science workshops (Science Bus - Naukobusik), interdisciplinary artistic workshops (Art Bus - Artbusik), historical workshops (Knight Bus - Rycerzobusik), ecological DIY workshops (Eco Bus - Ekobusik), magical creative activities (Magic Bus - Magiobusik), upcycling sessions (Reuse Bus - Hasiobusik), and overall development workshops (Circus Bus - Cyrkobusik).

Leading the popular science workshops was Cezary Olchawa, the eco-manager of the City of Bytom.

The Science Bus visited Miechowice, Bytom, Sucha Gora, Karb, and Bobrek.

All the sessions revolved around environmental pollution and the broader concept of ecology. During 60 minutes, participants conducted a series of experiments and hands-on activities under the guidance of the instructor. They learned the basics of laboratory work, gained insights into chemistry, biology, and physics, as well as the joys of learning. Throughout the workshop, participants witnessed the combustion of hydrocarbons and its consequences for the environment, created their own "clouds" of smog in bottles, and discovered ways to combat air pollution.
