On May 8, a special educational activity titled “Guardians of Clean Air” took place at the Preschool in Chałupki. The event was led by Angelika Krupa – the eco-manager of the Municipality of Krzyżanowice and the initiator of this inspiring initiative aimed at raising environmental awareness among the youngest residents.

With air pollution becoming an increasingly common problem, educating children about ecology has never been more important. The goal of the workshop was to introduce preschoolers to the concept of clean air, its role in our lives, and the dangers of smog – all in an engaging and age-appropriate way.

Learning Through Play and Experimentation

The session began with a series of simple yet effective experiments. With a little help, the children inflated balloons to observe the properties of air. They also sorted waste, learning the basics of recycling and how waste can affect air quality.

Later, they took part in hands-on demonstrations showing how air moves and how smog forms. A short story titled “The Sick Little House” helped the children understand the consequences of polluted air and encouraged them to think about how they can help protect the environment.

Curious Questions – Smart Answers

The workshop was carefully designed to let the children discover answers to important questions on their own:

  • What is air?
  • Can it be seen, smelled, or touched?
  • Can it be trapped in a box?
  • How does smog form and how can we deal with it?

Interactive activities helped convey complex concepts in a way that was clear, playful, and memorable for the young participants.

A Game with a Message

The final part of the workshop was a cheerful and energetic game titled “Guardians of Healthy Air.” The children took on the roles of little heroes protecting our atmosphere – and inspiring others to do the same.

Environmental education for young children is one of the cornerstones of the Municipality of Krzyżanowice’s work within the framework of the “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored” project. Thanks to initiatives like this one in Chałupki, we are already shaping a generation of conscious and responsible Guardians of Clean Air.
