Planting Trees for a Better Future. Arbor Day in Jastrzębie-Zdrój

Arbor Day is an annual celebration aimed at raising awareness of the crucial role trees play in our ecosystem and the entire planet. This year, the students of Primary School No. 17 named after Jan Brzechwa in Jastrzębie-Zdrój decided to take an active part in celebrating this special day by organizing a tree planting event on the school grounds.
The School's Anti-Smog Team, which operates as part of the LIFE program “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored,” along with the students, under the supervision of Edyta Garlińska, the eco-manager of Jastrzębie-Zdrój, planted six magnificent plane trees. Together with the students, the trees were also planted by the school principal, Beata Cisek. These trees will not only enhance the aesthetic of the school grounds but also contribute significantly to improving air quality, producing oxygen, and providing shade during hot days.
A single mature tree can produce enough oxygen for 10 people each year. Additionally, trees play a key role in regulating temperature by protecting urban spaces from excessive heat. Their roots also stabilize the soil, preventing erosion, and they filter water, purifying it from pollutants. In the face of ongoing climate change, planting trees is one of the most effective actions we can take to protect the environment.
The tree planting initiative by the students of Primary School No. 17 is not only an environmental protection effort but also a practical lesson that teaches young people the importance of caring for our planet. By participating in this global initiative, the students had the opportunity to learn more about the role of trees in the ecosystem and how daily decisions impact the future of our environment.
"Planting trees feels like getting an 'A' in environmental education," said one of the students participating in the event.
The celebration of Arbor Day at Primary School No. 17 was a perfect example of how local actions can have a global impact. Thanks to the combined efforts of students, teachers, and local authorities, the school grounds became not only greener but also more environmentally friendly. Every tree planted is a step toward a better future—for us and our planet.
Let’s take care of the trees, because they take care of us!
