At the Municipal Centre for Culture, Sport and Tourism in Żarnowiec, a special educational meeting was held for the youngest residents of the commune. Eco-manager Iwona Gębka introduced children in an engaging and accessible way to the topics of clean air and the principles of proper waste segregation.

From the very beginning, the children’s strong interest in the subject was evident. The presentation started with a conversation about the air we breathe. The eco-manager asked participants: “What do we breathe?” and “Why is clean air so important?” Thanks to simple examples and vivid comparisons, the youngest could understand that although we cannot see the air, its quality directly affects the health of people, animals, and plants.

The next part of the meeting was watching educational cartoons together. The animated stories presented in an approachable way the importance of caring for the environment, waste separation, and making conscious choices in everyday life. The cartoons sparked many emotions – children attentively followed the characters’ adventures and eagerly shared their reflections afterwards.

The most joy came from the practical part. Children, working in groups, created posters on waste segregation. On colourful sheets, containers marked in different colours appeared, accompanied by bottles, cartons, cans, and food scraps. The young artists put a lot of heart and creativity into their works, while at the same time reinforcing their knowledge of how to properly separate waste.

An important moment of the meeting was also a conversation about two boards depicting a smiling and a sad Earth. The eco-manager asked the children why one planet looked happy and the other gloomy. The answers were strikingly accurate – the Earth smiles when we care for the environment, separate waste, and avoid polluting the air, but becomes sad when people neglect it and leave disorder behind.

The entire meeting took place in a playful atmosphere but at the same time had a strong educational value. Thanks to the attractive format, the children not only gained knowledge but also understood that their everyday actions matter for the future of our planet.

At the end, the eco-manager handed out small gifts purchased as part of the LIFE project “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored.” She also emphasised that everyone, even the youngest residents of the commune, can become a small guardian of clean air and a friend of the environment. It is enough to remember waste segregation, energy saving, and caring for the surroundings.
