Sensors and other devices installed on the roof of a building in Katowice.

The first sensors measuring the energy efficiency of buildings were installed.

Sensors measuring energy efficiency have already appeared in the first buildings. Contractor – APA Sp. z o. o. yesterday installed the devices in the building of the Marshal's Office at ul. Dąbrowskiego 23 in Katowice.

In practice, energy efficiency monitoring involves the installation of many types of devices that will allow to determine energy usage by, among others: temperature measurement in selected rooms, carbon dioxide concentration, number of entries and exits from the facility, measurement of electricity consumption, amount of energy generated in the case of photovoltaic panels and thermal energy for collectors.

After installing the sensors in all selected 27 buildings, the Contractor will develop a website through which every resident of the voivodeship will be able to track the measurements.

After a year of measurements, the team of the Silesian University of Technology will begin to develop guidelines and theoretical models, and there will be a demonstrative implementation in five buildings in the Silesian Voivodeship. For this purpose, in the project "Silesia. Blue Sky Restored” approximately €0.5 million was allocated for each building.

The scope of work includes, for example: the use of renewable energy sources in buildings, the introduction of green roofs and facades, technologies that reduce energy, the installation of photovoltaics integrated with buildings, the design of ventilated facades, photovoltaic blinds or heating glass.

Monitoring energy efficiency is a very important activity aimed at developing know-how tools with professional scientific support of employees of the Silesian University of Technology. Thanks to sensors, construction projects aimed at improving energy efficiency and addressing the issues of sustainable construction can be designed and planned using experience and scientific knowledge, which in turn makes it possible to modernize existing buildings to make them low- or zeroemission.
