Increasing the surface area of green areas in the Silesian Voivodeship.

As part of the integrated LIFE project "Silesia. Blue Sky Restored", an action called "Concepts for Increasing Green Areas" has been planned. This action aims to implement four demonstrative case studies to increase the surface area of green spaces within the Silesian Voivodeship.

As part of Phase 1, a survey was developed and conducted, through which the project partner municipalities indicated areas proposed for revitalization. A typology of areas for use in green infrastructure development was also created. The typology includes challenging areas within the Silesian Voivodeship, target types of green infrastructure areas, and types of solutions, which can be downloaded here.

Furthermore, the selection of potential areas where pilot investments related to green infrastructure in the Silesian Voivodeship could be carried out has been completed.

Simultaneously, concerning the mentioned action, field visits have concluded, allowing for the verification of information provided in the surveys and an understanding of the realities of the designated locations.

Additionally, due to the direct connection of such spaces with air quality, an assessment of the terrain was conducted with respect to expected benefits (understood, for example, as reducing human exposure to pollution impacts) from establishing green public spaces. This assessment also considered the anticipated favorable or unfavorable conditions for project implementation.

The next stage will involve the selection of 4 locations (one from each subregion) for the purpose of conducting pilot investments.
