Bike patrols, recycling puzzles, and a campfire finale – this is how the residents of the Herby Municipality celebrated the 2025 EU Green Week. On Friday, June 13th, regional eco-managers Cezary Olchawa and Agnieszka Bujok, in cooperation with the Municipal Cultural Center in Herby, organized a special outdoor adventure titled "Herby in Action! Recycling and Ecology on the Move."

Ecology Meets Outdoor Activity

The participants – mainly children and teenagers – were divided into three teams. Each group set off on a bike route where they encountered eight checkpoints with tasks focused on circular economy, recycling, waste sorting, and the impact of pollution on health.

At each stop, they collected a puzzle piece, and solving all the tasks allowed them to reveal the final game slogan. At the finish line, participants enjoyed prizes, refreshments, and fun activities. Everyone received a Clean Air Guardian Diploma and a Smog Hunter badge.

An Ending with a Lesson

The event concluded with a short educational talk on the circular economy, emphasizing the value of repairing, reusing, and making conscious consumption choices. A bonfire and outdoor games created a friendly, relaxed space for further conversations about protecting the environment.

The event gathered 46 participants, and Herby’s Mayor, Ms. Iwona Burek, also joined the celebration.

An Event with European Recognition

“Herby in Action!” was held as part of the “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored” project and was under the patronage of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025. The initiative was also an official EU Green Week Partner Event.

It stands as an excellent example of how to combine environmental education with physical activity, local engagement, and fun.
