Gliwice by Lake Czechowice – Integration, Ecology, and the Joy of Summer

On 20 September, a special integration event took place by Lake Czechowice, bringing together the residents of Gliwice to joyfully celebrate the end of summer. The initiative of the District Councils attracted huge interest, and the perfect weather ensured an excellent turnout. Over 500 participants spent the day actively and in a spirit of community.
The picnic was held under the patronage of the Mayor of Gliwice, Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka, who has long supported initiatives that integrate residents and promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Events like this demonstrate the importance of local initiatives that create space for meetings, conversations, and collective action.
The programme was filled with diverse attractions. There were artistic performances, sports activities, children’s zones, and thematic stands that attracted both families and individual participants. Among them, the most popular was the information and consultation stand of the project “Silesia. Blue Sky Restored.” There, eco-manager Katarzyna Raszkowska prepared a set of games, puzzles, and riddles related to environmental protection and clean air.
Children enthusiastically solved ecological quizzes and puzzles, while adults engaged in conversations about sustainable habits in everyday life. The stand became a place where education blended with fun and direct interaction, and residents could obtain practical advice on energy saving, waste segregation, and accessing programmes that support renewable energy sources.
The entire event by Lake Czechowice showed that social integration and ecological education can go hand in hand. Shared fun, family conversations, and active recreation were enriched by important reflections on the future of our environment. The atmosphere encouraged the exchange of experiences, and participants proved that a local community can unite its efforts for the common good.
This year’s picnic was not only an opportunity to say farewell to summer but also a reminder that the everyday choices of residents – big and small – play a crucial role in the quality of life in Gliwice. It proved that when we act together, we can build a city that is friendlier to both people and nature.
