On June 14, 2025, Zawiercie’s City Park turned into a vibrant hub of environmental education, creativity, and community action. Under the banner “EkoJoy: A Picnic Full of Nature,” residents of all ages gathered to take part in an exceptional event promoting sustainable development, circular economy, and clean air.

The picnic was organized by Andrzej Gwóźdź, eco-manager for the City of Zawiercie, in cooperation with the Waste Management Department and the Zawiercie Development Agency. The event provided numerous opportunities to gain knowledge, inspiration, and positive energy—all while having fun.

Sustainable Fashion and Recycling-Inspired Fun

One of the event’s main highlights was the eco-fashion show by preschoolers, which captivated the audience and brought plenty of smiles. Outfits made from recycled materials proved that even waste can become a work of art, and that fashion can support the idea of reducing textile waste and promoting circular design.

Children and adults took part in workshops on making plant pots from reused materials, planting greenery, and creating eco-decor from recycled jars. The eco-manager also prepared eco-themed quizzes and ran an educational booth with materials on recycling, air quality, and reducing environmental emissions.

Bring Waste – Get a Seedling!

A special attraction was the waste-for-plants exchange, which gained huge popularity. Residents could responsibly dispose of household waste and, in return, receive seedlings to green their balconies, gardens, or public spaces. Additionally, clean-up activities were held throughout the day, helping improve the local environment.

Green Knowledge and Practical Advice

For those seeking in-depth knowledge, an eco-consultation point was available where residents could learn about available subsidies and support programs for green investments—such as replacing old heating systems, building insulation, and installing renewable energy sources. Experts also explained how air quality affects human health and what local actions can help improve it.

Part of the EU Green Week

The “EkoJoy” picnic was one of the official EU Green Week 2025 Partner Events, combining education, community involvement, and hands-on environmental action. Live music, artistic performances, and interactive workshops made the event not only educational but also a joyful and memorable experience. A truly summer atmosphere, lots of smiles, and great energy filled the day—hopefully sparking further local environmental initiatives.
