EcoBazaar in Miedźno – giving things a second life, powered by community spirit

On June 12, 2025, the Municipality of Miedźno hosted the first edition of the EcoBazaar – an event that breathed new life into everyday items and united local residents around the principles of the circular economy. This special gathering proved that even small changes in everyday habits can have a big impact on the environment.
Meaningful exchanges
The EcoBazaar was a space where people could exchange clothing, books, toys, plants, and other small, usable items – anything that could still be of value to others. Around 400 people took part in the event, including many students from the School and Preschool Complex in Miedźno who visited the exchange stands throughout the day.
The exchange began earlier in June, when residents could drop off items at a designated location, from where they were transported to the EcoBazaar. On the day of the event, attendees could freely browse through the collected items and take home whatever they found useful.
Creative eco-workshops for children
The event also featured eco-themed workshops for children, organized in collaboration with the Miedźno Municipal Cultural Center. Younger children made bracelets from cardboard rolls, while older participants created lanterns from glass jars. These hands-on activities not only fostered creativity but also taught children how to reuse materials in environmentally friendly ways.
Learning through doing
Thanks to the proximity of the School and Preschool Complex, whole classes visited the EcoBazaar together with their teachers. It was a great opportunity for young people to see how the circular economy works in practice and to understand why reducing unnecessary consumption is so important.
Thank you for your engagement
The EcoBazaar would not have been possible without the support of local organizations and residents. Special thanks go to:
- The “Aktywni Miedźno i okolice” Association – for supporting the event and extending its opening hours until 7:00 PM,
- The School and Preschool Complexes in Miedźno, Mokra, and Ostrowy nad Okszą – for organizing donation drives,
- and all residents who participated and contributed items for exchange.
The event was also attended by Ewelina Stobiecka, Mayor of Miedźno, and Grażyna Borycka, Treasurer of the Municipality.
EcoBazaar to become a regular event
The positive feedback from participants and inquiries about future editions have led to the decision to make the EcoBazaar a regular event. The next one is already planned for late August or early September 2025 – stay tuned for more details.
EcoBazaar: Exchange, don’t waste! – is more than just a local initiative. It is a practical expression of sustainable development goals, promoting the reuse of resources, waste reduction, and improved air quality through limiting overproduction and consumer waste.
Event hosted by: Ewelina Stobiecka, Mayor of Miedźno, and Urszula Tokarska, eco-manager of Miedźno Municipality.
The event was held under the patronage of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025. The initiative is an official Partner Event of the European Green Week.
