About Smog and Ecology in Sosnowiec Preschools

The most recent preschools visited this year by the municipal eco-manager, Grzegorz Wierzbicki, were Municipal Preschool No. 35 at 3 Zagórska Street and the Non-Public Preschool at 124a Braci Mieroszewskich Street. During the lectures, 52 and 21 preschoolers participated, respectively. Additionally, at the Non-Public Preschool, Mrs. Sylwia Wojtal from the Sosnowiec SANEPiD accompanied the eco-managers, responsible for leading the Healthy Preschooler Club

In both institutions, children were introduced to the LIFE project "Śląskie. Restoring the Blue," within which they were shown the educational film "The Prince and SMOG." Subsequently, the phenomenon of smog and the impact of air pollutants emitted from various sources on health were thoroughly discussed. Children also discussed what actions to take to protect themselves from smog and counteract this phenomenon.

Furthermore, the negative effects of smoking and being in the company of smokers were addressed. The necessity of living in symbiosis with our surrounding nature was also emphasized. Attention was drawn to why it is important to care for water and conserve energy derived from fossil fuels. At the end, the correct waste separation was mentioned.

The children were given coloring pages related to ecology. Eco-themed games were also gifted, and for the older participants, posters and leaflets informing about the project were provided.

The sessions were highly appreciated, and the children eagerly engaged in conversation, demonstrating basic knowledge of ecology. Thanks are undoubtedly due to the pedagogical staff of these institutions.
