11th World Urban Forum in Katowice

11th World Urban Forum

The largest global city event organized by the United Nations

The 11th World Urban Forum is the largest global city event. The event is organized every two years in a selected city of a UN member state. This year, Katowice has received this honor.

World Urban Forum 11 takes place on June 26-30, 2022. It is an event organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Program UN-Habitat, the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy and the host city, Katowice.

This year's edition was opened by:

  • António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations,
  • Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of UN-Habitat,
  • Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland.

Its aim is to promote the sustainable development of cities and to discuss the challenges they face. It is the most important global event for politics, transformation and urban development.

During the Forum, you can actively participate in events organized by participants (Networking events, Training events, Voices from Cities, SDGs in Action, Urban Library, ONE UN) and take part as a listener in meetings prepared by UN-Habitat (Dialogues, Roundtables, Special Sessions, Assemblies).

The event takes place every two years and this year already hosts over 22,000 participants from governments, regions, cities, NGOs and financial institutions.

As part of the project "Śląskie. Blue sky", we conduct, among others, activities related to:

  • sustainable development,
  • energy efficiency of buildings,
  • environmental impact of public utility facilities,
  • increasing green areas in cities,
  • reducing transport emissions.

That is why we could not miss the World City Forum.

The exhibition area is an important part of WUF11. Urban Expo, the space of nearly 8,000 m2, is organized in such a way as to relate to the general theme of the forum and attract a large audience.

In the Urban Expo zone, entities from all over the world present innovative solutions for achieving sustainable urban development. In addition to numerous stands in this space, there are networking rooms.

During the Forum, there are also numerous side events, such as: exhibitions, concerts, film presentations, sports and recreational games.
